Vanessa Bryant Celebrates Family Milestones Five Years After Kobe and Gianna’s Tragic Loss

Five years after the heartbreaking helicopter crash that claimed the lives of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others on January 26, 2020, Vanessa Bryant continues to honor their legacy while embracing moments of joy with her family. In May 2025, Vanessa shared a significant milestone: her eldest daughter, Natalia Bryant, graduated *cum laude* from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, marking a moment of pride and resilience for the Bryant family.

### **A Family Forged in Strength**

Vanessa, now 43, has faced unimaginable grief since losing her husband of 19 years and their 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, affectionately known as "Gigi." The couple, who married in 2001 after meeting in 1999, shared four daughters: Natalia (born 2003), Gianna (2006), Bianka (2016), and Capri (2019). Following the tragedy, Vanessa has leaned on her surviving daughters—Natalia, now 22, Bianka, 8, and Capri, 5—for strength, often crediting them as her "light in the darkness."

The past five years have been a journey of healing and perseverance for Vanessa. She has channeled her grief into preserving Kobe and Gianna’s legacy through initiatives like the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, which supports underserved young athletes. Vanessa’s dedication to her family and her late husband’s values embodies the "Mamba Mentality" of relentless determination.

### **Natalia’s Graduation: A Moment of Pride**

Natalia’s graduation from USC in May 2025 was a full-circle moment for the Bryant family. Vanessa shared the milestone on Instagram, writing, *"Legacy. ❤️ @nataliabryant ~ thank you @jeaniebuss for making this milestone even more special. #LakersFamily #USCGRAD #CumLaude 🎓🎉."* The post included a photo of Natalia’s graduation stole, adorned with her sorority letters, "Class of 2025," and "Cum Laude," as well as a nod to her late father with the words "4 ever" and emojis symbolizing love and legacy.

The celebration drew heartfelt support from celebrities like Michael B. Jordan, who commented, *"Congratulations!! World is yours!!"* and Ciara, who wrote, *"Gooo Nani Boo! So incredibly proud of you!!"* Taylor Swift also showed subtle support by liking Natalia’s TikTok post featuring the song *"Nothing New (Taylor’s Version)."* The Bryant family’s connection to Swift dates back to their attendance at her 2023 *Eras Tour* stop in Los Angeles.

Days after her graduation, Natalia joined her mother and L.A. County Parks to unveil a new Kobe and Gianna Bryant basketball court in Los Angeles, one of many initiatives through the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. This court, part of a broader effort to honor Kobe and Gianna through youth sports, symbolizes their enduring impact on the community.

### **Honoring Kobe and Gianna’s Legacy**

Vanessa has been steadfast in keeping Kobe and Gianna’s memory alive. In January 2025, marking the fifth anniversary of their deaths, she announced the upcoming release of *Mamba & Mambacita Forever*, a book featuring over 100 murals worldwide honoring Kobe and Gianna. Set to be published on August 19, 2025, ahead of Kobe Bryant Day (August 24), the book, co-authored with NBA photographer Andrew Bernstein, celebrates the global love for the father-daughter duo.

On May 1, 2025, what would have been Gianna’s 19th birthday, Vanessa shared a poignant tribute on social media, including a photo of Gigi in her Mamba Sports Academy uniform. The post, captioned *“Happy birthday, Gigi! Mommy loves and misses you more than I could ever express,”* drew messages from sports figures like Chris Paul, Pau Gasol, and Lisa Leslie. That same day, Vanessa and Nike released a special edition Nike Kobe 9 "Mambacita" sneaker, continuing a tradition of honoring Gianna through the Mambacita clothing line, with all profits benefiting the foundation.

Vanessa’s tributes extend to Kobe as well. On April 18, 2025, what would have been their 24th wedding anniversary, she posted a throwback photo, reflecting on their love story that began when they met on the set of a music video in 1999. Close friends like Pau Gasol and his wife, Catherine, gifted Vanessa a heartfelt anniversary present, underscoring the support system that has helped her navigate these milestones.

### **Family Moments and Community Impact**

Despite their loss, Vanessa and her daughters have found joy in shared experiences. In March 2025, Vanessa shared a rare video of Bianka and Capri excelling at skiing, showcasing their adventurous spirit. The family also enjoyed a ski trip with Pau Gasol’s family, including his children, Elisabet Gianna and Max, highlighting the close bond between the Bryants and Gasols.

Vanessa’s philanthropy remains a cornerstone of her life. In early 2025, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation donated over 8,000 sneakers and apparel items to families affected by Southern California’s wildfires, including the devastating Palisades fire. Her efforts earned her a philanthropy award in 2021, and she continues to support causes close to Kobe’s heart, such as women’s basketball, through initiatives like the Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award.

### **A Legacy of Resilience**

Vanessa’s journey is a testament to her strength and commitment to her family and community. Whether celebrating Natalia’s academic achievements, unveiling community basketball courts, or releasing sneakers and books in honor of Kobe and Gianna, she continues to embody the values they held dear. As she told *PEOPLE* in 2021, *“My girls help me smile through the pain. They give me strength.”*

The Bryant family’s story is one of love, loss, and unwavering resilience. Through her daughters and her tireless work, Vanessa ensures that Kobe and Gianna’s legacy endures, inspiring millions around the world. As Natalia steps into her future and Bianka and Capri grow, the Bryant family remains a powerful symbol of hope and perseverance, carrying the "Mamba Mentality" forward for generations to come.
