After reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open, Coco Gauff took a light-hearted jab at her friend and fellow tennis star Jessica Pegula. The two, who have a close off-court friendship, had plans to watch the new movie *Thunderbolts* together, but those plans fell through—much to Gauff’s amusement.
Gauff, who defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 in the fourth round, joked during her post-match interview with *Tennis Channel*:
**"Jess ditched me, once again."**
She explained that Pegula had invited her to see the film but later went home between tournaments in Madrid and Rome. Gauff waited, only to find out Pegula had already seen the movie without her.
**"She asked me if we could watch *Thunderbolts* together, and I was like, 'Yes.' Then she went home... I could have gone, but I still waited [for her]. Then I find out yesterday—her physio told my physio—that she saw the movie. She doesn't know that I know that she saw it."**
Gauff added that Pegula had even messaged her days earlier, asking if she’d seen the film yet.
**"I said, 'No,' because I was waiting for her! So this is the second time she's ditched me. The next time she asks to go to the movie, the answer is going to be, 'No.' I thought I was being a good friend, but she doesn't care about me, clearly."**
Despite the teasing, Gauff wished Pegula well—though the third seed was already out of the tournament after a shocking loss to world No. 361 Lois Boisson. Pegula, the billionaire heiress and daughter of Buffalo Bills/Sabres owner Terry Pegula, took the defeat graciously.
Gauff, meanwhile, advanced to face Madison Keys in the quarter-finals.
